Lions Club and its contribution to the development of Sorriso
The history of Lionism in Sorriso began in November 1985, when it was still a district of Nobres, when representatives of the Rondonópolis Lions Club visited. The following year, the Sorriso Lions Club was founded, whose first president was Ludovico Pedro Fávero.
Since then, many Sorrisenses have been at the head of the Club, which effectively participated in several important moments of the municipality, such as the process of its political and administrative emancipation; the installation of telephones and bank branches; the creation of the Comarca; the construction of the Forum; the conclusion of the BR 163, among other achievements.
According to the president of the AL 2021/2022 administration, Rafaelle Cristina Cerqueira Venega Arenhardt, the entity develops various social activities, with emphasis on campaigns in favor of good vision; referral of cataract surgeries; and diabetes awareness. The Sorriso Lions Club was also the first to implement the Lions Quest program in municipal schools.
“We have become part of a global network of volunteers who work together to make a difference to the underprivileged, seeking to meet the needs of our communities. Undoubtedly, the Lions Club was important for the social and economic development of Sorriso”, says Rafaelle.
To better defend Lionism among young people, in September 1990, Leo Clube Sorriso was founded. Today, Lions have 62 fellow Lions serving the local community in partnership with the Leo Club and government.
