We talked with Dr. Lauro Maiolino Ribeiro, Orthopedist and Traumatologist, also working in the area of Hyperbaric Medicine and Technical Director of Cicatrioxi, who detailed how the treatment works: “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is used as an adjuvant treatment for various pathologies, working together with specialties doctors who usually refer patients for joint treatment, such as vascular surgery (in cases of diabetic foot, venous and arterial ulcers of the lower limbs, etc.), orthopedics and traumatology (osteomyelitis, fractures with important skin and muscle injuries, limbs at risk of amputations, postoperative infections, etc.); general surgery (Fournier syndrome, postoperative pilonidal cyst, stitch dehiscence, etc.), , detailed the technical director.
“The HBOT, therefore, is a resource widely used in several specialties and particularly in plastic surgery, we use it not only to treat patients with eventual scarring difficulties, but in several cases in a preventive way to reduce the risks of post-surgical complications (infections, ischemia and skin necrosis), in addition to promoting the rapid regression of edema (swellings) and stimulating collagen synthesis, all of which contribute to better tissue healing”, added Dr. Lauro.
“Cicatrioxi uses a monoplace hyperbaric chamber for treatment, considered the most modern in the segment. Designed for individual treatments, it has an all-acrylic tube, resistant to high pressure and allowing visual contact with patients, reducing anxiety and claustrophobia factors. They are equipped with an audiovisual system that allows the patient the convenience of watching movies, series, accessing games and music during treatment. Each session lasts an average of 90 minutes”, he detailed.
According to Dr. Lauro Maiolino Ribeiro, “hyperbaric oxygen therapy reduces the number of hospital admissions, debridement surgeries, the total treatment time and the risk of amputations, with an earlier return to activities and socializing society, significantly improving the quality of life of patients undergoing treatment”.
He also emphasizes that Cicatrioxi has the most modern and technological dressings available on the market, which, in addition to reducing the contamination of lesions, can avoid daily changes of common dressings and stimulate the formation of new tissues, promoting faster and more efficient healing, he concludes. .
