
With a modern structure and highly trained clinical staff, Hospital 13 de Maio opens its Neonatal ICU

With investments of around R$ 2 million, the Neonatal ICU at Hospital 13 de Maio started operating on the 21st. A humanized environment with 07 beds and state-of-the-art equipment to care for premature babies who have some adverse situation at birth, in addition to an apartment for those who need isolation. The modern structure combined with the highly qualified clinical staff, the ICU comes to supply a great demand of Sorriso and region.
The pediatrician Dr. Flayane Calil is the coordinator of the sector, which has a multidisciplinary professional team made up of pediatricians, intensivists, nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists and psychologists, in addition to technicians. “An experienced and multidisciplinary team is what makes the sector even more efficient, and we have that”, says the doctor.
The coordination of the nursing team at the Neonatal ICU is under the responsibility of nurse Helen Aguiar. A fundamental job for maintaining the health of the little ones, being responsible for performing various functions such as receiving the newborn in the Intensive Care Unit, checking their vital signs, cleaning the baby, preparing and administering medication and diets.

According to the executive director of the 13 de Maio hospital, Eliane Frescura, offering this service to premature babies has always been something much expected by the population of Sorriso and region. “There has always been a demand on the part of high-risk pregnant women who would like to have their babies here in our hospital, in addition to requests for transfers from other municipalities that we could not attend due to the lack of these beds”.
According to her, offering a highly complex sector aimed at helping potentially serious patients makes all the difference when it comes to saving lives.
