SMILE, 36 YEARS!
NAME ORIGIN
Surrounded by waterfalls, rivers and enchanting landscapes, Sorriso is one of the five largest cities in Mato Grosso in terms of area and economy, has as its main activity, the cultivation of soybeans, which explains the title received in 2012 , of “National Capital of Agribusiness”.
In 1970 a group of pioneers formed a small agrovila on the banks of the Lira River, in the northern region of the state, the settled friends talking among themselves concluded that, even in the face of a lot of work, smiling was synonymous with encouragement to remain in the daily struggle. So, the ideal name for the place would be Sorriso, as it conveyed joy, inspired optimism and confidence.
From 1980 onwards, the municipality became a District through the comarca de Nobres, built by migrants from all regions, mainly from the south and northeast. Driven by the success of agricultural production in the region, its political-administrative emancipation only took place on May 13, 1986, through State Law No. 5002 and sanctioned by the then Governor Júlio José de Campos.
The municipality is currently made up of three districts: Boa Esperança, Caravágio and Primavera.
